Officials visit sites that received grants under the America the Beautiful Challenge.
Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland visited New Hampshire for two days this past week with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Martha Williams, where they visited local project recipients of 2023 grants from the Department of the Interior. They toured the Fair Hill Marsh site outside Portsmouth, which received a $2 million investment to improve the resilience of salt marshes along the Atlantic coast and participated in an outdoor skill-building workshop at the Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
“America the Beautiful Challenge grant awards in 2023, including the grant award for the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, total $140 million to support 74 landscape-scale conservation projects across 46 states, three U.S. Territories, and 21 Tribal Nations,” the department stated. “The grants will generate at least $13 million in matching contributions for a total conservation impact of more than $150 million.“
